Calling all Innovative Vocalists! If you’re a vocalist with an interest in performing on the outer edges of the norm, you might be just what we’re looking for. Gobsmack is an experimental vocal night run by Music Orbit, the networking organisation for all discerning leftfield musicians, and we’re looking for the next big thing. With big vocal chords.

Gobsmack has so far had brilliant nights at the Spitz, Bush Hall and the Luminaire, and has featured the likes of Jamie Woon’s folk-inflected loops, the Nordic a cappella Curious Voice Duo, avant-garde pop from ‘cellist/vocalist Laura Moody and adventurous electronica from Mikhail. It’s thrown beatboxing and looping, Iranian-inflected torch songs and jazz-flavoured improv into the mix.. Spicing up the nights further have been open mic sessions and exclusive on-the-night collaborations.

Gobsmack has found a new home at The Forge, right in the thick of all things cutting-edge in Camden as part of mO Series 1 and our event was Thursday March 4th 2010. View performances from the night at www.youtube.com/musicorbitcouk

We’re interested in the voice in any context, whether a cappella, with multimedia, solo or ensemble, and in any genre under the sun, as long the focus is on stretching the possibilities of the voice. If selected, you win a spotlight set in the concert that will be professionally filmed and recorded. Your work and performance will be promoted AND reviewed in the Music Orbit online magazine, and the best bit is that you don’t have to pay for it all! Someone else does.

Although we can't offer fees or travel expenses to members, we can get your work seen and heard by a new audience in central London. We'll support this through wide promotion with other partners and our websites, as well as introducing you to other members' work that may be of interest to you- so we hope that's enough to get you signing up for membership.
