Strung Out
Calling all string players and writers! Are you a string player or string ensemble? Have you written original music for strings that doesn’t seem to fit the straight and narrow? Fed up with trying to get heard? Looking for a first class performing outlet?
You could be exactly what we’re looking for!
Following the roaring success of the vocal project Gobsmack earlier this year, Strung Out is the latest precocious brain child of the Music Orbit think tank which is offering string players and ensembles all over the country a fantastic chance to get heard, seen, written and talked about.
We are looking for original, interesting and off-beat music for stringed instruments to be performed at a showcase at one of central London’s hippest new music venues, The Forge, Camden. Watch performances from our first night in March this year, filmed at Vibe Bar on Brick Lane www.youtube.com/musicorbitcouk
Whether you play sitar, viola, guitar, oud or double bass, whether your style is classical, Arabic, jazz, folk, fusion or rock; whether it incorporates theatrical, electronic or visual elements; whether you are solo or a mixed string combo, SEND US YOUR MP3s and ideas! We want to hear what you do!
If selected, you win a spotlight set in the next Series that will be professionally filmed and recorded. Your work and performance will be promoted AND reviewed in the Music Orbit online magazine, and the best bit is that you don’t have to pay for it all! Someone else does.
All YOU have to do is subscribe to the Music Orbit website and mail us your stuff. At a time when it’s increasingly tricky to find funding for new music, this is a truly un-missable opportunity that potentially puts players and composers on the map and gives new string music an audience.
We are plugged in and ready to listen to whatever you have to send us.
Good luck!

Although we can't offer fees or travel expenses to members, we can get your work seen and heard by a new audience in central London. We'll support this through wide promotion with other partners and our websites, as well as introducing you to other members' work that may be of interest to you- so we hope that's enough to get you signing up for membership.
